Last week we hosted two seating for a delicious home cooked meal with live music in our beautifully decorated community room. It was a wonderful chance for everyone to come together as friends and neighbors to celebrate the season. We loved watching residents and staff sit together and enjoy good food and great company. It makes our entire community feel like a family. Our Holiday Dinner is always one of our most popular events and has become an anticipated tradition.
At Powder Mill Apartments, we consistently strive to explore new ways of giving back to those in need. This Fall we hosted our “Thanks and Giving Dinner” with a homemade pasta dinner, side salad, breadsticks and dessert for delivery or pick-up.
We cooked all day and are thrilled to have raised $1500.00 for P.I.N.K Partners, a local York based organization that helps women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer face challenges before and after treatment. We give thanks to our sister communities for the inspiration.
We are genuinely proud of our residents and what they continually accomplish for society!
Powder Mill’s beautiful garden apartments may be located in a quiet country setting, but we are near downtown York, a city with rich history interwoven with vibrant arts and culture, creative dining and unique shopping.
Did you know that York is the birthplace of our nation’s Articles of Confederation and the place where the phrase “The United States of America” was first coined? Three centuries of American history have shaped our county into an incredible preservation of revolutionary times. York’s many museums offer an opportunity learn about a time in which America was new, inhabited by immigrant pioneers and Revolutionary War soldiers. The Agricultural and Industrial Museum highlights York’s industrial contribution to World War II, while the Bonham House allows visitors to experience what life was like for an upper middle class family during the 19th and 20th century.
For a peek at York’s future, spend a day in downtown York. A full calendar of events highlights three separate unique districts. The Market District centers on Central Market, with over 125 years of history and 50+ vendors showcasing farm fresh, local offerings. Interested in the arts? The Royal Square is an emerging art district, home to local artists and galleries, cafes and special events. Completing the trifecta is the WeCo business district, home to a variety of restaurants, shops and even an independent film house/art gallery.
Come experience the past and future in this diverse and ever changing city we call home.
Our technology class is off to a great start! Thanks to Jennifer with the Red Lion Senior Center for putting together a great program offered right here in our community room.
Want to join? It’s not too late to sign up. The FREE class meets every Thursday through December 1st from 9:30-11:30am. Contact the office to reserve your spot!
We’re having two get togethers this year for Christmas!
Join us on Wednesday, December 18th, from 6:30-8:30pm, at the community building for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
Then join us on Monday, December 23rd at 10:00am to have cookies and coffee with Santa.
Our collection begins right after Thanksgiving and will continue until December 20th, which allows our residents and local neighbors plenty of time to stop by with a new, unwrapped gift for a child in our area. The website is also set up to accept donations for those who prefer to let “Santa” do their shopping.
Powder Mill is hosting an Italian Dinner night to benefit Multiple Sclerosis Research for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The benefit will take place Friday, September 6 with two seatings- one at 5:00 pm and the second at 6:15 pm at the Community Building. If you can’t join us at the Community Building but still wish to participate, take-out will be available. Please contact the rental office for more information. We’ve also highlighted the event in our September newsletter.
Last week was our first ever “Mommy and Me” swim class. The little ones greatly enjoyed their time in the pool with Mom or Grandma. Our head lifeguard, Katie, did a fabulous job in making sure the lessons were a fun way to get the toddlers comfortable in the water. Take a look at the gallery below to see all the fun that was had.
